AkzoNobel showcases proven range at new COMAC Customization Center

April 11, 2022

COMAC, the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, is a business known for its innovation, whether that’s designing and building its own airplanes, or its joint ventures with other global players including Boeing to complete and deliver the latter’s 737 Max to the Chinese market.

Recently, COMAC has gone further, recognizing the vital importance of collaborating with leaders across the whole of the aviation industry’s supply chain. This has led to the opening of a new ‘Customization Center’, described as a ‘one-stop-shop’ for COMAC customers to select the partners with whom they wish to work.

Being part of the center will enable us not only to showcase the exterior products within the AkzoNobel range, including the approved basecoat/clearcoat system, but also many of the new interior coating products now available to protect and enhance the airplanes COMAC is building.

At its core, the new Center is a huge facility to promote COMAC’s ARJ21 regional airplane to both a local and global audience. It is also an opportunity to display its C919 short/medium-range narrow-body airplane, and its CR929 long-range wide-body airplane to other potential airline customers worldwide. Cockpit and cabin mock-ups are represented, enabling visitors to see and experience each of the airplanes in a single venue.

As well as the new airplanes, the Center is also intended as a way of engendering closer collaboration between the manufacturer and its supply chain partners, ‘laying the foundation for building a world-class aviation enterprise’. It provides the chance for aerospace industry suppliers – AkzoNobel Aerospace Coatings among them – to highlight and prove their own product and technology capabilities in a fully interactive way and promote the fully customized options available on every new airplane.

Being one of COMAC’s chosen supply chain partners for the project is a huge honor, and one not lost on Jeffrey Li, Strategic Accounts Manager for AkzoNobel Aerospace Coatings in China: “It’s an exciting development,” Jeffery explains.
